Terry J. (TJ) Brown is running for Franklin County Recorder because he is the candidate who has the experience to take the office to the next level and ensure quality service for the residents of Franklin County. He is proud of his years of experience with Franklin County government. This experience gives him a strong base to both successfully win the office and to serve effectively once elected.
Terry currently serves as the Internal Auditor for Lori Tyack, the Franklin County Municipal Clerk of Court. He has enhanced the office by evaluating internal controls, analyzing financial systems, and developing processes to ensure the accuracy of the records maintained by the office.
He has a strong record of public and community service. Mayor Coleman appointed him to serve as his representative on the Joint Columbus and Franklin County Housing Advisory Board. From 2006-2007 Terry served as Commissioner Paula Brooks' representative on the Franklin County Planning Commission. In 2007 Treasurer Ed Leonard appointed him to be his representative on the Franklin County Board of Revision and as Secretary for the Central Ohio Community Improvement Corporation. Terry also was a member of the Franklin County Joint Benefits Committee, where members of labor and management from across the county worked together to help rein in health care costs by implementing changes that saved over $6 million in 2 years, while still providing high quality health insurance.
In addition to his public service Terry has also been active in the community. Terry is a graduate of Capital University where he earned his degree is Communication Studies. While at Capital he also taught preschool and Vacation Bible School and in 1998 he served as the Habitat for Humanity Collegiate Challenge Coordinator for Capital University. Terry currently volunteers at Voice Corps reading Service for the Blind, is a strong advocate for organ donation, and has served as the Treasurer for his church, St. Paul United Church of Christ. He is a 2008 recipient of The Heart of Ohio Hero Award for the 25th Ohio House District presented by former State Representative Dan Stewart. Terry and his partner Joel own a home together in the Westgate Park neighborhood of Columbus.
